A Just Walk (run, hike, etc…)

"…to the Rock that is higher…"

Trail Head

Here you are at the trail head of my blog and I hope you will enjoy journeying with me for a while! Although I am a runner, I hope not to go too fast for you along the way. The trail head is just a start, and the way frequently branches to address a variety of topics, depending on the direction I feel like going at the moment.

I am a physician (Pediatrician!) working at the intersection of health and justice. My motivation rises from something much deeper. I live where I live and do what I do because I’m compelled by the love of the Beloved Son to be a force for good in the world. I strive to be a conduit of the Kingdom so that a bit of Heaven may crash into a small part of our Earth. I’ve lived in Asia for over 10 years – starting in Thailand, and now in China – striving to work for justice wherever I see it lacks. This has taken on several different areas of focus over the years, but the underlying theme of justice and health – served with mercy, grace, and love – has remained constant.

I do try to live a well-rounded and holistic life, which takes me on all sorts of adventures such as back-country camping, ultra-marathons, outdoors-y activities, cooking (which CAN be adventurous!) and travels to interesting places near and far.

“From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Ps 61:2

  1. Hey Katherine,

Sorry I missed your visit to Fort Wayne. Just got the newsletter today! Our Church, Sonrise, has been working with the Koren refugees who attend First Baptist service on Fairfield. They are great people and have so much to offer. I think of you often and hope all is well on the mission field.

No worries about missing me in the Fort! I’ll be back through many times before I go – let’s talk via email about getting together!

    BTW – I’m still running!

  12. Hey Katherine,
I came to visit Fort Wayne today and your mom showed me your site while I was at the church. I’m very impressed with your layout and such and will definitly be visiting frequently to see what’s going on. So many times people set up websites that aren’t very functional and don’t have a very nice layout but yours looks great! Good luck with things!

  13. Hey Kathy…We’re all SOOOO excited that you’re going to speak at Sonrise! Our family will be there, at least most of us…I think Kirsten will be in town that week-end, too, so there will be friendly faces at the 9:30 service! Hope things are going well for you…I know you’ve been traveling!
    Love, Dini

  14. Wow Wow Wow!!! When I first introduced myself to you at the Y. I was just looking for somone faster to join our morning running group. I never realized you won the Warsaw 50K and were second in the runners on parade race. Congratulations on your 2nd place finish at the HUFF 50K. I enjoyed talking to you after the race. Thanks for the tip. I will use glide or vaseline on my feet. Wet shoes and socks caused two or three inch blisters on my feet. It was a painful 31 miles for me. Keep Tammi informed when your back in town. She can post it on her mail list. Then you will allways have a group to run with. Good luck. God will allways be with you.

  15. I have “taken a walk” with you just now, and enjoyed every inch, especially the pictures. David and I think of you daily. Thank you for taking the time to maintain this site.
