Currently, I live in Shenyang, People’s Republic of China, which now serves as a sort of base for the work which is becoming increasingly international.
Much of my energy is directed against trafficking in persons, as an international consultant on the health consequences of human trafficking. In coming alongside organizations who are working on prevention and providing aftercare to victims, I help build their capacity for holistic and effective interventions. Training health professionals in identification of, prevention of, and caring for trafficked people is also a big part of my work. On the ground here, I also work in outreach to these vulnerable people.
Several years ago, I helped launch Global Health Promise, which is dedicated to providing help for and addressing the maternal child health consequences of sexual exploitation. Through advocacy, service, and research, we work for and speak out on behalf of the millions of mothers and their children who have been trafficked.
Locally, I teach pediatric medicine to Chinese doctors in a family medicine training program. The training involves both clinical settings as well as didactic sessions. An interesting (and I think very cool) aspect of this work is that the clinical teaching occurs through charitable outreaches to the marginalized and poor, such as those in orphanages, nursing homes, and countryside clinics.
Prior to moving to Shenyang, I lived in Kunming, Yunnan province where I was involved in a number of projects with orphans, children with disabilities, trafficked/prostituted women and HIV/AIDS education.
Please note that because of my location, some language may seem a bit cryptic. At worst, it may seem to lack conviction of true. Consider it a form of self-censorship to avoid provocation of those in my host country. It is my hope that you’ll grasp the passion between the lines.

Hi Katherine. Looks like a good site. I tried to sign up by email, but nothing happened. Hate to bother you with technology, but I’m not sure what I did or didn’t do.
Love you,
Caren
Good Morning, Katherine!
I just wanted you to know that I pray for you every Tues. and was wondering if you have any special prayer requests this week?
It was good seeing you at church a few months back! Sounds like you are getting settled in!
God’s Blessings,
Laurie
Hey Katherine,
You may not remember me, but I’m one of the LinkCare alumni.
Stumbled across your blog through the Life Water web site. I’m still hanging on in Cyprus. Keep up the good work!
Rick
Hi Kathy:
How great to finally take the time to go to your site. I am so excited for you to have all these wonderful experiences in your life. You are a model for many young people out there……and your view of the world is far greater than most of us. I have to say, I remember when.
Take care and keep writing.
Barbara

Katherine,
I am a pediatrician in Indianapolis and adoptive mom of a beautiful daughter from China. We are trying to set up an elective with an orphanage in Guizhou in parternship with an adoption agency. Wondering if you have any contacts in this province or advice( likely a loaded question).
Thanks
Debbie
